LMMS is worth a try since it's free.

Haven't heard of that... Is it good? What is it like?

@Belyayevs-Fox @Nyctophilia I'm currently using LMMS. It's basically an FL Studio bootleg but it's really easy to use and good appearance compared to other free DAWs. It's recommended to download the beta version as well as joining the Discord server for more help (linked on the official web page).

And can you make proper full length songs on there and stuff?

You can also try OpenMPT to see if it works for you.

@Nyctophilia Of course, it's 100% free. Check my NG profile if you want some proof.

FL Studio is my fav :D.

That's what I was mostly thinking... as a professional, you must have some experience XD for EDM is that the one to go for?

@F-777 @Nyctophilia I wouldn't say for EDM exactly. I also make Orchestra music etc for game OSTs non-related to my F-777 tracks. It comes down to what VSTs you are loading INTO Fl Studio to use.

For EDM (and you can load these in ANY DAW. and if you can't tho its not a DAW worth using) I would recommend theses plug in VSTs:

1. ReFx Nexus (its not #1 on my list because at this point I make most of my own sounds but its best to start. You can't make sounds but it has a ton of good presets to start practicing).
2. Sylenth1 and Spire. (these 2 are amazing for EDM leads).
3. Serum (most dubstep artists use this plug in a LOT because of the basses it can make)
4. IL Harmor. (it shouldn't be a first VST for people to use but once you get to a certain level it kinda fills all the gaps that every other VST lacks in.)

Other than that it comes down to sample packs. Basically WAVs for example if you download 50 kicks or 50 snares. That kinda thing. (i can recommend amazing ones just send me a PM)

But in the end. No DAW has a strength for genre. It's just a home base that you THEN load plug ins into and those plug in choices are different for everybody depending on the genre you want to make.

FL Studio tho is just my favorite and ALSO a huge upside is I think most online tutorials now are for FL Studio. So thats a huge bonus. I would say start w FL Studio and then later you can switch and try others if you want :). But ill bet mad money you will get hooked and love FL Studio too :D.

But for any person looking to get into music making I always recommend FL Studio and ReFX Nexus to start making EDM right away. Then can grow from there and learn the other VSTs :).

OH ONE LAST THING. Dimrain47 on newgrounds got super crazy listens and is considered an NG godfather almost and all he used was FL Studio and Sytrus (comes w FL studio). You can tell his sounds arnt the highest quality but in the end it doesn't matter if you can make some awesome music w it and he sure did :).

So if you only have money for FL Studio and nothing else dont worry Sytrus is really good.

Thanks, this has really helped... I have finally decided on FL Studio, I am getting it later on today. Thank you for all your advice, it has really helped! :)
